Works great and fast delivery
It did not take long to get the sending unit and it was properly packed and it was in good shape when it arrived.
It works just fine. Comes with the large gasket and sealed up well, no leaks. If being installed on a non metallic tank, you will need a wire from ground/tractor frame to the outer metallic rim of the unit. Fuel gauge works again! -
Great idea and price but a difficult fit
The tank looked very nice from the outside. It will be replacing my rusted out tank in my JD 401C. The fuel shut off valve and drain valve were installed. The pick up was above the tank bottom so this reduces sucking up crud. But none of the slots for mounting the tank lined up with mounting points. If you really want to bolt it in, you will need to redrill the tank where the bolts need to go.
Once in, I found the location of the back of the tank and the metal threaded inserts were not in the same spot as the original tank. Air cleaner and hydraulic reservoir moved forward. The stabilizing rod between radiator and tank won't stay put in tank slot since the tank flange is very tapered and smooth. One could grind it down but I really don't know how far is too far.
Once installed I tried to put on the hood but it required both the fuel filler and water filler holes modified since they both moved forward. Even though there were fit problems, it will work just fine and it will NEVER rust and price was WAY cheaper than a new steel tank. Oh ya, the original screws for the fuel gauge sending unit will not work. I used much larger sheet metal screws and silicone sealant. You do need to add a wire from the sending unit to ground since the tank is non-conductive. After fixing and dealing with the dimensional issues, it works just fine and I suspect it will be good from now on. Hey, it is just a tractor and the tank does work fine and will never rust. It could have been GREAT but it was just OK.
